Wagonga Inlet Boardwalk and Viewing Platform

1 Boardwalk and viewing platform_edited.

Eurobodalla Shire Council engaged Teleo Design for the structural design, construction and installation of a boardwalk and viewing platform as part of its “living” foreshore renewal program to improve the usage of the foreshore at the Wagonga Inlet.

Teleo had previously been engaged to provide an access ramp as part of these renewal works, and was awarded the boardwalk and platform package as it allowed for a similar aesthetic across both projects, with the added benefit of providing a cost saving to Council of engaging only one single contractor.

As with the access ramp, the foundations for the boardwalk were created by inserting FRP posts into the seabed using pneumatic pile-driving machinery. The boardwalk and associated viewing platform were then hand assembled on site, respecting the fragile and unique environment of the Inlet.

The end result is a serene meandering structure stretching approximately 75m over the water and away from the established walking and cycling path, which is low maintenance, highly durable and unobtrusive. Locals and tourists can now take a gentle wander out over the inlet’s marshy shore, and spend time on the viewing platform observing the rich bird and marine life under their feet.
