Wagonga Inlet Access Ramp
Teleo Design was engaged by Eurobodalla Shire Council to design, fabricate and install a replacement access ramp at Wagonga Inlet as part of the “living” foreshore renewal program.
Overall the Living Foreshore program aims to improve foreshore protection and water quality, restore multiple oyster reefs and diversify native saltmarsh along the foreshore, whilst simultaneously enhancing current recreational water-use opportunities.
The foundation for the ramp was created by driving FRP posts into the seabed using pneumatic pile-driving machinery. The superstructure was also designed in FRP for off-site fabrication, with the structure delivered to site and hand-assembled onto the posts to prevent any potential spills into the ocean.
The decision to design and construct completely using FRP allowed for an access ramp which sits lightly into the environment, with long life and durability alongside low maintenance requirements for our client, with a quality non-slip finish for locals and tourists alike.
The construction methodology adopted by Teleo included the use of silt booms during excavation and piling operations to prevent any sediment contamination of the waterway, and to prevent further disturbance to the soil cover following works by other contractors.
The scheduling of construction works required consideration of not only the tidal flow through the inlet, but also school holiday tourism expectations.
