Merlynston Creek Pedestrian Bridge, Broadmeadows VIC

4 Bollards installed and in use.jpg

Teleo was engaged to design and supply the retrofit of a pedestrian bridge over Merlynston Creek in Broadmeadows. The existing bridge did not meet DDA compliance and required the replacement of a dilapidated deck.

With a brief to reuse the existing steel girders, Teleo designed a 12m span replacement structure.

The narrow 2m wide existing timber deck was demolished and replaced by FRP mesh panelling, providing greater stability for users and durability in terms of maintenance and asset life. The deck is now supported by steel joists, which were designed to be bolted to stanchion placements to support the handrailing system and the deck panelling.

The replacement structure has an overall gentler profile, removing the steep approaches on the original bridge.

The entire demolition, repaint and installation was completed in a week, with minor finalisation works undertaken shortly afterwards. The fast and smooth installation process created minimal impact to the local residents, and was appreciated by our client.
