Shellharbour Civic Centre, Shellharbour NSW

When Shellharbour City Council determined that the exterior of the newly-constructed Civic Centre was to reflect the coastal and escarpment setting of the city, the walls were imagined as gabion-clad with blue metal to reflect the colour and form of the nearby slopes, providing a visual support to the wave-like design of the building’s roof.
Our client was engaged to construct the gabion cladding walls, with Teleo Design engaged to provide the arrangement and detail drawings for the design as well as final design verification.
The extent of the works was vast, with the cladding wrapping the entire lower portion of the rear of the building, alongside the accessibility ramp and the stairway points.
The detail design was a complex project, with differences in the composition of the supporting walls translating to the need for differing anchor methods around the building.
Teleo completed regular site inspections during construction phases to confirm and certify compliance with the design.
