Powells Creek George Street Bridge, Strathfield NSW

Teleo was engaged by Strathfield Municipal Council to supply and install three bridges over Powells Creek, a Sydney Water controlled channel. The George Street Pedestrian Bridge was the final bridge to be approved and completed in this package of works, in part due the challenges faced in its placement under a major motorway overpass and next to high volume carpark.
Unlike the two previous bridges completed by Teleo for this project, the George Street bridge is a 15m beam design, with a beam walkway on one side to meet DDA compliance requirements. FRP decking and inbuilt handrailing were included in the initial design, along with brackets and mountings specifically designed to allow for artworks celebrating local history to be installed.
Teleo worked with our civil contractors Green Civil Services to complete all preparation works during daylight hours, and organised for the completed galvanised bridge structure to be delivered to site in one piece, in readiness for a night install.
Operating to a detailed construction methodology, a single crane lifted the bridge structure into place onto the prepared footings in one movement. The 3 approach ramp modules were then craned and bolted into place, with the entire installation completed within a 3 hour timeframe.
Utilising such a methodology is Teleo’s preferred installation practice, as it creates minimal impact to the environment and the local community, and as highlighted in this high traffic-flow location, produces minimal negative impact to traffic.
