Spring Place Artworks, Chatswood NSW

As part of Willoughby City Council’s push to repurpose underutilised open spaces, artworks were commissioned for installation into the newly-imagined pocket park of Spring Place, Chatswood.
Teleo was engaged to provide the design and fully shop detail the selected sculptures - “Canopy” and “Gateway”. The brief included that the Australian Standards were readily identifiable and generally unmissable on all documentation to allow for possible construction either domestically or overseas.
Transportation of the finished artwork was a significant consideration within the design phase, with hidden splice connections being selected and utilised for both sculptures to allow for safe transit and a smooth finish on installation.
Footings design for each sculpture was also a part of the project brief, with unique requirements for each piece. Buried services were anticipated, with the proposed design being pile capping over a single pile to support two posts close to each other.
The site chosen for the pocket park also included a heritage brick culvert which needed preservation and avoidance.
The subsequent location of the buried services during installation works required modifications to the design of the footings.
