Tanby Road Pedestrian Bridge

Teleo Design was engaged by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to supply, construct and install a pedestrian bridge alongside Tanby Road in Yeppoon, Queensland.
The project involved the delivery of a 36 m long, 3 m wide pedestrian bridge, measured between handrails. Teleo Design supplied a truss arch bridge with FRP deck and a Moddex handrailing system. The bridge was designed to comply with the applicable TMR duty specifications. The bridge design had been completed by Teleo Design under a separate contract.
Steel fabrication was undertaken by Sun Engineering, a TMR-approved fabricator. Sun Engineering was responsible for manufacturing and assembling the bridge off-site, with the objective of delivering the completed structure to site as a single unit.
Teleo Design monitored fabrication progress and conducted regular workshop inspections to verify compliance with the approved design specifications and quality requirements. A final site inspection was completed prior to loading the bridge onto a truck for overnight delivery to the installation site.
Coordination of the installation involved the Electricity Authority isolating power and lowering powerlines to ensure the lift could be carried out safely.
A crane was mobilised and ready on-site for the scheduled installation. The bridge was successfully delivered to site from Brisbane and installed, with road access restored 2 hours later. This efficient installation minimised disruption to road users and demonstrated the effectiveness of the pre-planned lifting methodology and off-site fabrication approach.
